Agnes has worked 6 days per week since March to assist in covering our COVID units for discharge planning. She has taken it upon herself to reach out to the surrounding post acute facilities to identify available places to discharge COVID patients. She has worked with the ED tirelessly to find alternatives to admission for less acute COVID cases when the ED was backed up and no beds available and then followed those cases in the outpatient setting to ensure their safety.

Aimee is the person who walks into work everyday with a smile on her face and a positive attitude. She is always looking for small ways to brighten everyone's day that she comes into contact with, patient and coworkers. During COVID-19 she creatively found ways for patients to still have access to resources like wigs and for those receiving chemotherapy infusions to receive individual snack bags. She created a blanket drive so that our medically underserved patients would not have to be cold. When support groups could no longer meet, she developed a new program called "Being Beautiful Inside and Out" that is a one on one program for patients. Aimee is one of a kind and truly a hero!

Byron Young, APRN, FNP
Byron performs scared work, and speaks the gospel of Jesus Christ on a daily basis. Byron is busy answering calls from the community with questions about COVID - where is testing available, how should they care for their sick loved ones, what does being hospitalized with COVID mean. The list can go on and on about all the calls and questions he receives, and he handles each call with care, grace, support, and prayer. Byron also has office staff full of questions and he goes above and beyond to answer questions and listen with patience. When patients contact me about uncertainty and full of concern, Byron listens to me, and always offers guidance without hesitation. He has recently been at the Infusion Clinic providing services, with a servant's heart, and can do attitude, all while being the Director of SmartHealth. While he might not be at bedside inside the hospital, he is definitely on the front lines caring and going above and beyond during this ongoing COVID Crisis.

No one expected that we would need to open a psychiatric COVID unit at Behavioral Health. A recent onslaught of cases and a shortage of beds at the main campus necessitated a swift conversion in just a few days. Larry was instrumental in assisting with the necessary steps to make this happen immediately. Not one complaint. He helped arrange for extra O2, PPE, getting staff fit tested, x-ray capability, housekeeping changes, and helping get the unit turned into a completely separate, secure space. But most important, Larry took time to train our inexperienced staff in the safe use of PPE, and helped them feel confident and safe each day. He is a hero every day, but especially during COVID!

Although she wasn't my nurse for this delivery, she made sure I was properly introduced and absolutely comfortable with everyone who cared for me. Lillian pulled a muscle and was in severe pain one of the days I was in the hospital,but refused to go home sick because she is the ultimate team player! Michelle came two weeks before we got our first COVID patient and has been instrumental in the development and initiation of our COVID projects that have sustained our efforts in the fight against COVID-19. One of her biggest contributions was the research behind our N95 UV disinfection process. She took her knowledge of UV light surface disinfection and reached out to industry leaders to design the N95 UV disinfection box. It was specifically designed for Baptist Hospital and it was the first of its kind in the state. This has helped tremendously by providing protection to our staff by sustaining our supply of N95 masks.

There were days where I wanted to give up and just cry, which I did many times in front of her. She made me feel normal, she made me feel loved and that I was not a lost cause. She would cry with me, encourage me and on the days where I saw no light at the end of the tunnel. She would pray for me. Grab my hand, close her eyes and ask for healing for my mind, my body and soul. I will never forget her and her staff. Nikki has made such an impact on my life.

When COVID-19 hit Patty was continually multitasking to meet the extreme demands for PPE that "plagued" us. While administrative work piled up on her desk and her computer, she could be found in the warehouse stacking and organizing supplies or delivering materials to units in the patient care areas only to stay late and come early to complete those administrative tasks. Her selfless commitment to getting the job done during the pandemic just spotlights her typical level of service to all of us who call upon her. Patty's work is behind the scenes, so very few of the people who benefit the most from her conscientious efforts ever know about it. When this crisis loomed before us so unexpectedly, Patty with her work ethic and experience was one of the finest resources we had to meet the challenge.

Bobbie has gone above and beyond on performing Sacred Work for Baptist Hospital. She always checks on her employees to make sure everybody is stable during this pandemic, and always has a bright positive attitude even if we know she's facing personal struggles. Every time I see her at work she has her mask on, sanitizes all the time, and always follows all protocols of the hospital. On the several occasions that I was in the Materials Management Department inquiring about PPE that was being donated by some of our local churches, Roy was doing double and triple duty as Director of Materials Management, Warehouseman, and concerned supervisor trying to support an overworked staff. While the hospital at large faced the challenges of COVID-19 infection, caring for COVID patients, monitoring employee safety, etc., few were aware of the truly heroic efforts of Roy and his staff to locate, distribute, and re-supply units with scare PPE. While patient care staff were being lauded for their selfless efforts to serve, Roy and his staff were working long hours without any recognition or enough encouragement for the great good they were doing for our patients and staff.

Stacy Wilhelm, NP
Stacy is a nurse practitioner. She has spent countless hours on 3S and 5N, as well as weekends on 2S caring for Covid patients in addition to her regular job on 3S. She sometimes comes in more than 1.5 hours early to make sure she is prepared for her very busy day. She is always available to the staff and she never complains. She has had a very difficult year, but she shows up with a smile on her face everyday determined to do sacred work for her patients and coworkers.

Stephen has become the local Neurology expert at Baptist in a short time, but he would be the first one to wince at the term "expert." He is as humble and selfless as he is smart and hardworking. It was typical for Stephen to work for weeks at a time without an off day before the Covid crisis, and in the midst of it he continues to work extraordinarily hard and put his patients first. You may find Stephen managing complex neurological disorders or pulling a patient up in bed. No task is beneath him.

Steven is Baptist Hospital's Employee Health Nurse. He is the first voice and kind face that new employees see when they become a care partner. He has personally fit tested every employee who needs a N95. He does a great job of calming employee's fears and even follows up with those employees who did not have family to check in with them.
